We’ve Found It
Wood Bioenergy

When the going gets tough,
start up a new magazine!

Nobody introduces a magazine in the middle of a recession! Obviously, not true. Welcome to the inaugural issue of Wood Bioenergy magazine. Its publisher, Hatton-Brown Publishers, Inc., is anything but a stranger to most of you. I am sure you’ve seen one or more of our other forest products industry trade magazines—Panel World, Timber Harvesting, Timber Processing, Southern Lumberman and Southern Loggin’ Times.

We view Wood Bioenergy as a natural addition to our lineup. It benefits from more than 100 years of industry journalism experience on our editorial staff.

This magazine startup couldn’t have happened without the support of the more than 40 equipment, supplier and service companies that are advertising in this issue. These companies, in the middle of a recession, and after 2009 budgets had already been planned, believed enough in the concept of this new magazine to want to be a part of it. Thank you, and we hope this issue and ensuing ones live up to your high standards, and provide you with lots of what we all want—more business!

Wood Bioenergy is free to qualified readers in the U.S., and we ask you to be sure to complete the personal subscription form that was included with your mailing. Readers outside of the U.S. are asked to pay a small subscription fee, which can be taken care of by visiting the afore mentioned subscription form.

Wood Bioenergy focuses on the three main segments of the wood-based energy industry: fuel pellets, power generation and cellulosic ethanol, while following closely the feedstock procurement strategies, in-woods harvesting and plant production technologies for each.

The articles in this issue comply with that formula. Read Dan Shell’s article on Oregon-based Biomass One; Jennifer McCary’s piece on Alabama’s Dixie Pellets; David Abbott’s story on Castleberry Logging; DK Knight’s in-depth report on the fiber resource supply issues that will drive wood energy. Pete Stewart with Forest2Market has contributed an excellent article on feedstock procurement strategies.

As is the case with all of our magazines, you’ll find in Wood Bioenergy that our editors are constantly in the woods, in the mills and in touch with the pertinent players in the industry. And you’ll see that our articles aren’t shy about explaining the varied technologies and systems that comprise this industry, while constantly delving into the crucial issues that will govern this industry.

We’ve been feeling the pain like everybody else during the current economic downturn. As a result we’ve been searching for an opportunity during this moment of adversity, not unlike many of you.
We’ve found it: Wood Bioenergy.
