David Abbott joined the Hatton Brown staff in March 2005. David grew up around the logging business. His father, Bill, worked for J.A. Riggs Tractor, a Cat dealer in Little Rock, Ark., and for Timberjack in Montgomery, Ala., before starting Abbott Logging Co. in 1974. David spent summers during high school and college working on his father’s crew. Despite being a dedicated Bama fan, David intended to study forestry at Auburn University but received a better scholarship offer to Huntingdon College in Montgomery, where he studied international relations (political science), later earning a Master’s degree in public administration through Auburn’s Montgomery campus. He and his wife, Cindy—daughter of long-time HB scribe Jennifer McCary—married in 2003. They have two children, Nathan and Logan.
